Join the Federal Government as a Pension Specialist. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to support our mission of providing leadership on federal personnel management. This part-time position offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the retirement security of thousands of federal employees.
In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert on federal retirement systems, including FERS and CSRS. You will be responsible for analyzing complex pension calculations, advising employees on eligibility requirements, and ensuring the accurate processing of retirement applications.
Responsibilities
- Analyze employee service records and salary data to calculate accurate pension estimates and final retirement annuities.
- Provide exceptional technical guidance and customer service to federal employees and retirees regarding pension plan benefits and eligibility.
- Review and process pension-related correspondence, ensuring strict compliance with federal regulations and OPM policies.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in pension records and coordinate with agency payroll and HR offices to rectify errors.
- Stay current on changes in federal retirement legislation and internal procedures to ensure accurate advice is provided.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation related to pension analysis and retirement processing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in pension administration, benefits management, or federal human resources.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and regulatory guidelines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to a non-technical audience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass a background investigation and obtain a Federal security clearance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, for data analysis.
