Responsibilities
- Design and implement network security solutions including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing of federal IT systems
- Lead incident response activities for security breaches and cyber attacks
- Develop and maintain comprehensive cybersecurity documentation and compliance reports
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security best practices across VA systems
- Monitor security alerts and proactively address potential threats using SIEM tools
- Stay current with evolving cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of hands-on cybersecurity experience in federal or regulated environments
- Active Security+ CE certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
- Proficiency in NIST frameworks (SP 800-53, SP 800-171) and FISMA compliance
- Strong understanding of network protocols, cloud security (AWS/Azure), and zero-trust architecture
- Experience with SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar) and vulnerability scanning tools
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal government security clearance
