Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance and repairs on city infrastructure including sidewalks, streets, and drainage systems
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently (backhoes, dump trucks, graders)
- Assist in park maintenance including landscaping, playground equipment upkeep, and trail management
- Respond to emergency service calls during inclement weather and community events
- Conduct routine inspections of public facilities and report maintenance needs
- Adhere to OSHA safety standards and city protocols at all times
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on special projects and community initiatives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in public works, construction, or related field
- Valid Virginia driver's license with clean driving record
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely (training provided)
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
