Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery including backhoes, dump trucks, and street sweepers for infrastructure projects
- Perform routine maintenance on city roads, drainage systems, and public facilities
- Respond to emergency weather-related repairs (floods, hurricanes) with 24/7 on-call rotation
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement sustainable urban development projects
- Conduct daily safety inspections and maintain compliance with OSHA regulations
- Document work progress using digital reporting systems and inventory management tools
- Train junior staff on equipment operation and municipal safety protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with 2+ years of public works/construction experience
- Valid Louisiana Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with clean driving record
- Certification in heavy equipment operation or willingness to obtain within 90 days
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in extreme weather conditions
- Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and municipal regulations
- Basic proficiency in GIS mapping and digital work order systems
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with diverse stakeholders
