Responsibilities
- Monitor inmate activities to prevent disturbances and ensure facility security
- Conduct regular patrols and inspections of cell blocks, common areas, and perimeter
- Enforce institutional rules and maintain order through de-escalation techniques
- Document incidents and maintain detailed shift reports using digital systems
- Coordinate with medical and mental health staff for inmate welfare
- Respond to emergencies including medical incidents, fights, and security breaches
- Transport inmates between facilities and court appearances
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Florida driver's license
- Ability to pass comprehensive background check and polygraph examination
- Successful completion of 400-hour correctional officer training academy
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Physical ability to restrain individuals and work in confined spaces
- Experience in law enforcement or corrections preferred
