Key Responsibilities:
As a Federal Benefits Specialist, you will be the first point of contact for veterans seeking assistance. Your role will involve interpreting complex federal regulations and providing clear, compassionate guidance to applicants.
Responsibilities
- Conduct intake interviews and accurately complete VA Form 21-526EZ and related disability compensation applications.
- Review submitted documentation for completeness and accuracy before submission to federal adjudicators.
- Provide exceptional customer service to veterans, answering inquiries regarding benefits, eligibility, and the claims process.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive veteran information in accordance with federal privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA, Privacy Act).
- Update and organize case files and digital records using the VA's electronic health record system (VistA).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to resolve complex benefit discrepancies.
- Stay current on federal policy changes and regulations affecting veteran benefits.
Qualifications
- United States Citizenship and eligibility for a background investigation.
- High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree in Human Services, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working in a government, healthcare, or customer service environment is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn proprietary federal software quickly.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to diverse populations.
- Flexibility to work part-time hours (approx. 20-25 hours per week) as required.
