Responsibilities
- Administer and process pension benefit requests, ensuring strict adherence to state regulations and VRS policy guidelines.
- Conduct thorough analysis of member accounts to calculate accurate retirement benefits, including service credit and final compensation.
- Respond to complex inquiries from members and employers regarding pension eligibility and payout options.
- Maintain and update pension plan databases, verifying data integrity and resolving discrepancies.
- Collaborate with the actuarial team to support plan valuation and long-term financial planning.
- Prepare detailed reports for internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies as required.
- Assist in the implementation of new pension plan features and system upgrades.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, benefits administration, or a related government function.
- Strong knowledge of retirement plans, actuarial concepts, and applicable state and federal laws.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel (pivot tables, formulas) highly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-experts.
- High level of attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Certified Pension Professional (CPP) or equivalent designation is a plus.
