Responsibilities
- Administer pension plans for state employees, including benefit calculations, processing retirements, and handling inquiries
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and Kansas state pension laws
- Develop and implement pension plan policies, procedures, and educational materials
- Collaborate with auditors, legal counsel, and investment teams for annual reporting and fiduciary oversight
- Analyze pension data to forecast liabilities and recommend funding adjustments
- Manage member communications regarding eligibility, distribution options, and plan changes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of pension administration or benefits management experience
- Proficiency in pension software (e.g., Millennium, Alight)
- Strong knowledge of retirement regulations (ERISA, IRS 401(a), Kansas statutes)
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Valid Kansas driver's license (required for occasional travel to state facilities)
