Responsibilities
- Administer pension fund investments, distributions, and compliance with ERISA and California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) regulations
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports and actuarial valuations for the County's $2.5 billion pension portfolio
- Conduct benefit calculations and provide retirement counseling to County employees and retirees
- Collaborate with auditors, legal counsel, and investment advisors to ensure regulatory compliance
- Develop and implement process improvements for pension administration workflows
- Manage vendor relationships and technology systems supporting pension operations
- Train staff and stakeholders on pension policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of pension fund administration or benefits management experience
- Extensive knowledge of federal/state pension regulations (ERISA, CalPERS, IRS Code)
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, SQL, and pension administration software (e.g., PeopleSoft)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Pension Actuary (ASA) designation required
- Experience with public sector pension systems and multi-employer plan structures
- Exceptional analytical skills with attention to complex financial data
- Strong written/verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholder audiences
