Responsibilities
- Process Pension Claims: Accurately review, verify, and process pension benefit applications and adjustments for retirees on the weekend shift.
- Customer Service: Respond to high-volume inquiries from retirees and beneficiaries via phone and email, resolving complex issues regarding pension calculations and eligibility.
- Data Integrity: Maintain precise records in the state pension database, ensuring all documentation is compliant with Texas state regulations and ERISA guidelines.
- Compliance Management: Monitor changes in pension laws and internal policies, updating procedures to ensure ongoing compliance for all weekend transactions.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with the main office team to resolve outstanding issues and ensure a seamless handover of responsibilities at the end of the shift.
- Conflict Resolution: Handle sensitive financial situations with diplomacy and empathy, maintaining a high level of trust with public servants.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field preferred; High School diploma with significant relevant experience considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in benefits administration, payroll processing, or government pension services.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of state pension plans, retirement systems, or ERISA regulations.
- Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook) and experience with state government ERP systems.
- Availability: Must be available to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) on a rotating schedule.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
