Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency calls, dispatching appropriate police units
- Operate radio systems, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), and emergency notification equipment
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers during medical or crisis situations
- Maintain accurate records of all calls and communications
- Coordinate with other emergency agencies (fire, EMS) during multi-incident responses
- Remain calm under pressure while handling high-stress emergency scenarios
- Adhere to strict confidentiality and procedural protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- U.S. citizenship and valid Virginia driver's license
- Ability to pass comprehensive background check and polygraph examination
- Clear speaking voice with excellent communication skills
- Basic computer literacy and typing proficiency (minimum 35 WPM)
- Ability to multitask in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- No felony convictions or serious misdemeanor offenses
