Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units to appropriate locations using CAD systems.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of all dispatch activities and unit status.
- Monitor radio frequencies and departmental equipment for operational alerts.
- Provide clear and concise information to officers and citizens in stressful situations.
- Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel as proficiency increases.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Driver’s License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong computer literacy and typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM).
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick, critical decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
