Responsibilities

  • Receive, screen, and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public.
  • Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incidents using two-way radio and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • Monitor and operate multiple radio channels to maintain situational awareness of ongoing incidents.
  • Accurately maintain records of all calls, dispatches, and resource allocations in the CAD system.
  • Provide critical information and directions to callers to ensure their safety until responders arrive.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new communications personnel.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to departmental policies and procedures at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment.
  • U.S. Citizenship or legal right to work in the United States is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely under pressure.
  • Ability to type at a speed of at least 35-40 words per minute (wpm) is highly preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn complex dispatch software quickly.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
