Responsibilities
- Receive, screen, and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incidents using two-way radio and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Monitor and operate multiple radio channels to maintain situational awareness of ongoing incidents.
- Accurately maintain records of all calls, dispatches, and resource allocations in the CAD system.
- Provide critical information and directions to callers to ensure their safety until responders arrive.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new communications personnel.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to departmental policies and procedures at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment.
- U.S. Citizenship or legal right to work in the United States is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely under pressure.
- Ability to type at a speed of at least 35-40 words per minute (wpm) is highly preferred.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn complex dispatch software quickly.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
