Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize incoming emergency/non-emergency calls via 911 and administrative lines
- Dispatch police, fire, and medical units using CAD/RMS systems with precise location verification
- Maintain detailed logs of all communications and incidents per department protocols
- Provide critical instructions to callers during emergency situations until responders arrive
- Coordinate multi-agency responses during major incidents and disasters
- Operate radio systems and specialized communication equipment per FCC regulations
- Participate in continuous training to maintain certification and procedural knowledge
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (college degree preferred)
- Ability to remain calm and decisive during high-pressure emergency situations
- Exceptional verbal communication skills with clear articulation in English
- Basic computer proficiency with ability to learn specialized dispatch software
- No felony convictions and ability to pass background investigation and drug screening
- Valid Minnesota driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with high accuracy
