Responsibilities
- Receive, prioritize, and route emergency/non-emergency calls via multi-line telephone and radio systems
- Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software to track officer locations and incident status
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers during medical emergencies and critical incidents
- Maintain accurate digital logs of all communications and actions taken
- Coordinate with multiple agencies (EMS, Fire, NOPD) during complex incidents
- Participate in mandatory training programs to achieve dispatcher certification
- Remain calm and professional during high-pressure situations with clear communication
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED required)
- Must be 18+ years old and a U.S. citizen
- Pass comprehensive background check, polygraph, and drug screening
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM with 90% accuracy
- Ability to multitask in high-stress environments with sound judgment
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Windows OS
- Valid Louisiana driver's license at time of hire
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor domestic violence charges
