Responsibilities
- Process emergency/non-emergency calls with precision, dispatching appropriate police/fire/EMS units
- Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and maintain real-time incident tracking
- Coordinate multi-agency responses during critical incidents including natural disasters
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers during medical emergencies and active situations
- Maintain detailed logs of all communications and ensure accurate record-keeping
- Collaborate with federal/local agencies during major operations and investigations
- Participate in continuous training to maintain certification in emergency protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in criminal justice preferred
- Minimum 21 years old with valid Louisiana driver's license
- Ability to pass rigorous background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Type 40+ WPM with strong computer literacy and data entry proficiency
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor domestic violence charges
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must complete NOPD's 6-month dispatcher certification program
