Responsibilities
- Process emergency and non-emergency calls, including 911 incidents, with accuracy and empathy
- Operate radio communication systems to dispatch police units and coordinate emergency responses
- Maintain detailed records of calls, incidents, and unit status using CAD/RMS systems
- Provide critical information to officers in the field and other emergency responders
- Monitor multiple channels simultaneously while prioritizing time-sensitive incidents
- Utilize mapping software to determine optimal response routes and resource allocation
- Remain calm and professional during high-stress situations and critical incidents
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in criminal justice or communications preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with 95% accuracy
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and polygraph examination
- Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to de-escalate tense situations
- Proficiency in computer applications and willingness to learn specialized dispatch software
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
- U.S. citizenship and minimum age of 18 at time of appointment
