Responsibilities
- Monitor Emergency Frequencies: Continuously listen to police, fire, and medical radio frequencies to identify and respond to emergencies in real-time.
- Dispatch Emergency Units: Accurately send police, fire, and ambulance units to locations based on citizen calls and officer needs.
- Process 911 Calls: Gather essential information from callers, including location, nature of the emergency, and status of victims.
- Maintain Records: Log all calls, messages, and unit status into the CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) system accurately and timely.
- Resource Coordination: Coordinate with other agencies and jurisdictions as needed to ensure seamless emergency response.
- Escalation Management: Recognize life-threatening situations and utilize pre-programmed emergency protocols immediately.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education in criminal justice or communications is a plus.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Driver's License: Valid Oregon driver's license and a safe driving record are mandatory.
- Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to type accurately (40+ WPM preferred).
- Background: No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history; must pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph.
- Stability: Demonstrated stability in work history and residency within the tri-county area.
- Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills and the ability to learn complex dispatch software quickly.
