Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented individuals to join the Greensboro Police Department as a Police Dispatcher Trainee. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for the community, responsible for receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls. You will play a critical role in coordinating law enforcement, fire, and medical responses to ensure public safety.
As a Trainee, you will receive comprehensive on-the-job training and classroom instruction to master radio communication, incident reporting, and crisis management. Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize incoming calls for service, including emergency 911 and non-emergency lines, with high accuracy and speed.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services to the appropriate locations using CAD systems.
- Monitor police department radio frequencies and CCTV surveillance systems to identify and respond to ongoing incidents.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date computer-aided dispatch (CAD) logs and records.
- Provide critical information to officers in the field and coordinate multi-agency responses during major events or disasters.
- Perform routine checks on communications equipment and ensure all systems are operational.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid North Carolina Driverβs License with a satisfactory driving record required.
- Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 words per minute) and computer proficiency.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as be available for overtime.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening.
