We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as Police Dispatcher Trainees. As a critical member of the Buffalo Police Department, you will serve as the first point of contact for the public and the central link between emergency services and law enforcement personnel.

Responsibilities
- Monitor Radio Systems: Continuously listen to police, fire, and EMS radio frequencies to detect distress signals and unit status updates.
- Emergency Dispatch: Receive and process emergency 911 calls, gathering critical information and prioritizing responses based on urgency.
- Unit Coordination: Dispatch police officers, fire fighters, and emergency medical services to the correct locations using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Record Keeping: Accurately log calls, incidents, and unit activity into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Public Assistance: Provide information to the public regarding police reports, directions, and community services.
- Radio Maintenance: Perform basic checks on radio equipment to ensure reliable communication channels.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- License: Valid New York State driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Stress Management: Ability to remain calm and composed under extreme pressure and in high-stress emergency situations.
- Technical Aptitude: Basic computer literacy and the ability to learn complex dispatch software systems quickly.
- Attention to Detail: Strong ability to multitask and pay close attention to detail while listening to radio traffic.
