Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering critical information to assess situations.
- Unit Dispatching: Accurately dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incident locations using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Radio Communication: Maintain clear and effective two-way radio communication with field personnel and other agencies.
- Record Keeping: Log all calls, responses, and incidents into the department's database to maintain accurate records.
- Caller Assistance: Provide life-saving instructions and emotional support to citizens during stressful emergency situations.
- System Monitoring: Monitor surveillance systems and traffic signals to assist in traffic control and situational awareness.
- Training Support: Assist senior dispatchers and participate in the structured trainee curriculum to master dispatch protocols.
Qualifications
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Computer Literacy: Basic proficiency in using computer systems and typing is preferred; training will be provided.
- Stress Tolerance: Ability to remain calm, focused, and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Background: No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
- License: Valid Driver’s License in the State of Florida is required.
