Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming calls from the public and dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical personnel to incidents.
- Monitor Systems: Continuously monitor radio frequencies and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems to track unit status and field activities.
- Gather Information: Obtain critical details from callers to determine the nature and location of the emergency, ensuring responders have the right resources.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all dispatch activities, incidents, and messages.
- Community Assistance: Provide information and assistance to the public regarding city services and non-emergency inquiries.
- Shift Management: Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- License: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal English.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn new software systems quickly.
- Stress Management: Ability to remain calm, make quick decisions, and handle high-pressure situations effectively.
