Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and complaint-based inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public swimming pools
- Investigate public health complaints and outbreaks to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
- Enforce local, state, and federal health regulations through education and enforcement
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate public health records
- Provide technical guidance to business owners on sanitation and safety best practices
- Collaborate with other county departments to address cross-cutting public health issues
- Participate in emergency response activities during public health crises
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field
- Valid California Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification
- Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental health or regulatory compliance
- Strong knowledge of California Retail Food Code and Title 22 regulations
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to interpret technical regulations and apply them to complex situations
- Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation
- Proficiency with inspection software and data management systems
