Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public swimming pools
- Investigate public health complaints and disease outbreaks within 24 hours
- Enforce local health codes through violation notices, hearings, and legal actions
- Provide health education to business owners and community groups
- Collaborate with state agencies during emergency response situations
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain digital compliance records
- Testify in municipal court regarding regulatory violations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field
- Valid Texas Registered Sanitarian (RS) certification
- Minimum 3 years of field inspection experience
- Strong knowledge of FDA Food Code and Texas Health & Safety Code
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights/weekends
- Texas driver's license with clean record
- Proficiency in inspection software and GIS mapping tools
