We're seeking a detail-oriented Public Works Inspector to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations on critical municipal projects. This vital role bridges engineering specifications and on-ground execution, safeguarding public safety while advancing community development initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily field inspections of construction projects (roads, drainage systems, utilities) ensuring compliance with Caltrans and city standards
- Review engineering plans, specifications, and contractor submittals for technical accuracy
- Document violations, deficiencies, and progress through detailed reports and photographic evidence
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and regulatory agencies to resolve compliance issues
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports using CityWorks software and GIS mapping tools
- Manage project documentation including permits, variances, and change orders
- Train junior inspectors on municipal codes and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years construction inspection experience with government or public works projects
- Valid California Inspector certification (QACI or equivalent)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, CityWorks, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of Caltrans Standard Specifications and Fresno Municipal Code
- OSHA 30-hour construction safety certification required
- Valid California driver's license with clean record
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
