Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment for road construction and drainage projects
- Perform preventive maintenance on city vehicles and machinery
- Respond to emergency infrastructure repairs during inclement weather
- Conduct field inspections of public works facilities and report findings
- Assist in traffic control and safety management during public events
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and inventory
- Collaborate with engineering teams on infrastructure improvement projects
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in civil technology preferred
- Valid Virginia driver's license with clean driving record
- 3+ years experience in public works or infrastructure maintenance
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days)
- Proficiency with GIS mapping and asset management software
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in outdoor conditions year-round
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to safety protocols
