Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks including excavation, grading, and material handling for infrastructure projects
- Operate heavy machinery (backhoes, loaders, dump trucks) with proper safety protocols
- Maintain public roads, sidewalks, parks, and drainage systems
- Assist in emergency response for weather-related incidents (snow removal, flooding)
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on public facilities
- Collaborate with skilled trades and engineering teams on complex projects
- Adhere to OSHA standards and city safety regulations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Valid Michigan Driver's License with clean driving record
- Minimum 1 year experience in construction, landscaping, or public works
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification preferred
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Basic mechanical aptitude and equipment operation skills
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation)
- Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
