Responsibilities
- Operate provided heavy machinery (excavators, loaders, graders) for construction/maintenance projects
- Perform manual labor including excavation, paving, and facility repairs using department-issued tools
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and maintenance as per safety protocols
- Collaborate on public infrastructure projects including roads, parks, and drainage systems
- Implement erosion control and safety measures using provided protective equipment
- Document project progress and material usage using department systems
- Participate in emergency response operations during storms or natural disasters
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED accepted)
- Valid Class C California driver's license (Class A/B preferred)
- Ability to operate heavy machinery (training provided for specific equipment)
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Physical capability to lift 50+ pounds and work in outdoor environments
- Basic knowledge of construction materials and safety standards
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Previous public works or construction experience preferred
