As a Public Works Laborer, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of Memphis. Whether it is paving roads, clearing snow, or maintaining parks, your hard work will be seen and appreciated by every Memphian.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor duties including paving, patching, sweeping streets, and maintaining public infrastructure.
- Assist in snow and ice removal operations during winter months to ensure public safety.
- Collect and dispose of trash, debris, and recyclables from public right-of-ways.
- Operate and maintain light equipment such as brooms, loaders, dump trucks, and jackhammers.
- Follow all safety protocols and OSHA regulations to ensure a secure work environment for yourself and your team.
- Inspect local infrastructure for damage, potholes, or safety hazards and report findings to supervisors.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks requiring stamina.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly and stand for extended periods.
- Valid Driver's License (Class C) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Basic knowledge of construction or public works operations is a plus, but training is provided.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Willingness to be trained on specialized heavy machinery.
