Responsibilities
- Street Maintenance: Assist in the cleaning, repair, and upkeep of public streets, sidewalks, and alleys to ensure a safe environment for residents.
- Equipment Assistance: Operate light motorized equipment, such as street sweepers, loaders, and jackhammers, under the direct supervision of experienced crew members.
- General Labor: Perform physically demanding manual tasks including digging ditches, hauling materials, loading/unloading trucks, and operating hand tools.
- Site Preparation: Assist in preparing construction sites and public facilities for various municipal projects, including landscaping and debris removal.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all OSHA safety regulations, traffic control procedures, and departmental policies to maintain a zero-accident workplace.
- Pothole & Utility Work: Assist crews in filling potholes, repairing curbs, and helping with basic utility maintenance tasks.
Qualifications
- Physical Stamina: Must be physically fit and capable of lifting 50+ pounds repeatedly and standing/walking for long periods in various weather conditions.
- Driver’s License: A valid California driver’s license is preferred; a learner’s permit may be considered depending on the specific role.
- Communication Skills: Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors and senior staff.
- Teamwork: Must be a cooperative team player willing to assist colleagues and work collaboratively on project sites.
- Availability: Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as project schedules dictate.
- Education: High school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required for this entry-level position.
