As a Public Works Laborer, you'll work on streets, parks, and facilities maintenance – gaining hands-on experience in construction, landscaping, and equipment operation. Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor in construction, repair, and maintenance of public infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, and parks
- Operate light machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently (e.g., jackhammers, saws, shovels)
- Assist skilled tradespeople in completing projects according to specifications and safety standards
- Conduct daily site inspections and report maintenance needs or hazards
- Maintain clean and organized work areas following OSHA and city protocols
- Participate in emergency response for weather-related incidents or public safety events
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training in construction or maintenance preferred
- Valid California Driver's License with clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions
- Basic knowledge of construction tools and safety procedures
- Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Experience with public works, landscaping, or construction highly desirable
- Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and emergency call-outs
