Job Summary
The Public Works Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city infrastructure. This includes street cleaning, pothole repair, tree trimming, and general park maintenance. The ideal candidate is physically fit, safety-conscious, and dedicated to serving the public.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of city streets, sidewalks, and storm drains to ensure public safety.
- Operate heavy equipment such as street sweepers, graders, and dump trucks safely and efficiently.
- Inspect public infrastructure for damage, wear, or hazards and report findings to supervisors.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and citizen complaints regarding public infrastructure promptly.
- Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of public parks, recreational facilities, and greenways.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
Qualifications
- Valid California Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in public works, construction, landscaping, or general maintenance is preferred.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and during night shifts if required.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools is a plus.
