Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on municipal infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Operate heavy machinery and equipment, such as dump trucks, backhoes, pavement breakers, and jackhammers, strictly following all safety protocols and operational manuals.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and weather-related damage reports promptly to restore public access and safety.
  • Install, repair, and maintain public facilities, including signage, lighting, and utility fixtures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of work performed, materials used, and equipment status using City of Atlanta management systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental protection guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, planners, and other municipal staff to plan and execute large-scale public projects efficiently.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required; a Vocational Certificate in a related field (construction, engineering, mechanics) is highly preferred.
  • Valid Georgia Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record required; a Class B CDL is a plus.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous labor, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic construction principles, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, or road maintenance techniques.
  • Previous experience in public works, municipal services, or general construction is strongly desired.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow detailed technical instructions.
