Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of food facilities, housing units, and public swimming pools to ensure regulatory compliance
- Lead hazardous materials response investigations and mitigation planning for industrial/commercial sites
- Develop and implement outreach programs for underserved communities regarding environmental justice issues
- Analyze complex environmental data to identify emerging public health risks and recommend policy solutions
- Train junior staff and coordinate interdepartmental projects related to climate adaptation initiatives
- Prepare detailed technical reports and expert testimony for regulatory hearings and legal proceedings
- Manage grant-funded projects focused on reducing environmental health disparities in vulnerable neighborhoods
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field from an accredited institution
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in environmental health regulation or public health program implementation
- Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification or equivalent California credential
- Demonstrated expertise in California Retail Food Code enforcement and housing safety standards
- Advanced proficiency in GIS mapping and environmental data analysis software (e.g., ArcGIS, ENVI)
- Exceptional communication skills for community education and stakeholder engagement
- Valid California driver's license and ability to traverse diverse field environments
- Spanish bilingual proficiency strongly preferred
