Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of food establishments, childcare centers, and public swimming pools
- Investigate public health complaints related to foodborne illness, hazardous materials, and sanitation violations
- Develop and implement corrective action plans for non-compliant facilities
- Provide technical guidance to businesses on regulatory compliance and best practices
- Testify in legal proceedings and prepare detailed inspection reports
- Collaborate with community organizations on public education initiatives
- Stay current with evolving health regulations and emerging environmental threats
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field
- California Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification required
- Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental health enforcement
- Valid California driver's license with clean record
- Strong knowledge of California Retail Food Code and HACCP principles
- Excellent communication skills for public interaction and report writing
- Ability to work independently in field environments and manage multiple priorities
- Spanish bilingual proficiency highly desirable
