Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public swimming pools
- Investigate environmental health complaints and enforce state regulatory standards
- Develop and deliver public health education programs to community stakeholders
- Analyze data to identify emerging health risks and recommend evidence-based interventions
- Collaborate with state agencies on emergency preparedness and response activities
- Prepare detailed technical reports and testify at regulatory hearings
- Mentor junior staff and train new inspectors on protocols and procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field
- Valid California Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification
- Minimum 3 years of field inspection experience in environmental health
- Strong knowledge of California Food Safety Act and Housing Code
- Excellent communication skills for public education and stakeholder engagement
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to diverse scenarios
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and environmental data analysis tools
- Valid California driver's license with clean driving record
