Responsibilities

  • Perform annual actuarial valuations of the County's defined benefit pension plans and recommend funding strategies.
  • Analyze demographic trends and investment returns to forecast future liabilities and funding requirements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and California Government Code requirements.
  • Prepare complex reports and presentations for the Board of Supervisors and actuarial consulting firms.
  • Communicate complex pension information clearly to retirees, employees, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the HR and Finance departments to update plan documents and participate in plan amendments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Membership in the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial consulting, or government benefits.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including advanced functions) and actuarial software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
