Responsibilities
- Process and review complex pension retirement applications, ensuring accuracy in benefit calculations based on service years and salary history.
- Analyze data to resolve discrepancies in pension records and prepare accurate correspondence for retirees and beneficiaries.
- Ensure strict compliance with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and federal guidelines, including ERISA and IRS regulations.
- Conduct detailed audits of pension files to identify risks and recommend procedural improvements.
- Provide exceptional customer service and technical support to retirees, answering inquiries regarding eligibility, vesting, and benefit distribution.
- Collaborate with HR departments and actuaries to update pension modeling tools and documentation.
- Prepare detailed reports for state auditors and legislative oversight committees regarding pension fund status.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, benefits administration, or actuarial support.
- Strong working knowledge of California Government Retirement Systems and ERISA regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and experience with HRIS or ERP systems (e.g., Workday, SAP).
- Exceptional attention to detail with a track record of error-free data management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple high-stakes tasks in a fast-paced government environment.
