Job Summary:
The Pension Plan Administrator will oversee the administration of public pension plans, ensuring that all calculations are precise and that all regulatory requirements are met. You will act as a subject matter expert for our members, answering complex questions regarding retirement benefits and eligibility.
Responsibilities
- Retirement Administration: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of retirement applications, including eligibility verification, benefit calculations, and final disbursements.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure all pension processing adheres to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) guidelines, ERISA regulations, and state budget laws.
- Data Integrity: Maintain accurate records in the state pension database, performing regular audits to identify and rectify discrepancies.
- Member Services: Serve as the primary point of contact for retirees and active employees, providing expert guidance on pension projections, survivor benefits, and lump-sum options.
- Actuarial Reporting: Collaborate with actuaries to prepare monthly and annual reports regarding fund solvency and contribution requirements.
- Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in current workflows and propose technological solutions to streamline operations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in pension administration, benefits management, or government financial services.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access) and experience with Human Capital Management (HCM) or pension administration software (e.g., Broadridge, Ceridian) is highly preferred.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of government retirement systems, tax laws, and Social Security integration.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional analytical skills with a proven track record of accuracy in high-volume data processing.
