Role Overview:
As a Senior System Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our IT infrastructure. You will ensure high availability, security, and performance of our servers and networks while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive digital initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain complex server environments including Windows Server, Linux (RHEL/CentOS), and virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V).
- Implement and enforce robust security policies, ensuring compliance with state and federal standards (e.g., NIST, SOC 2).
- Perform system monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response to minimize downtime.
- Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with network engineers to optimize data flow and connectivity across the state network.
- Lead tier-3 support initiatives and mentor junior system administrators.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in system administration within a government or enterprise environment.
- Strong proficiency in Windows Server and Linux administration.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and backup/recovery solutions.
- Security certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator) are a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
