Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive urban planning policies aligned with Detroit's strategic vision
- Lead community outreach programs to gather stakeholder input on development projects
- Analyze zoning regulations and propose amendments to support sustainable growth
- Prepare environmental impact assessments and long-range land use plans
- Collaborate with city departments on infrastructure and public space initiatives
- Manage federal grant applications for urban renewal projects
- Present planning proposals to city council and community boards
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive urban planning experience in municipal government
- Professional certification (AICP) preferred
- Expertise in Detroit's zoning code and Michigan planning statutes
- Strong GIS mapping and spatial analysis capabilities
- Proven track record in community engagement and public speaking
- Experience with federal grant management and compliance
- Knowledge of sustainable development practices and affordable housing policies
