Responsibilities
- Develop and update comprehensive land use plans and zoning regulations aligned with Portland's Climate Action Plan
- Analyze urban development proposals for compliance with state statutes and local ordinances
- Lead community engagement sessions and public hearings to gather stakeholder input
- Prepare technical reports and policy recommendations for City Council approval
- Collaborate with transportation, parks, and housing departments on integrated planning initiatives
- Manage environmental impact assessments under NEPA and Oregon state regulations
- Mentor junior planners and supervise contract planning professionals
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive urban planning experience with government or public sector focus
- Professional Planner (AICP) certification required
- Expertise in GIS mapping and urban design software (ArcGIS, AutoCAD)
- Demonstrated success in community outreach and public presentation skills
- Knowledge of Oregon land use planning laws (SB 100, Metro 2040 Growth Concept)
- Experience with climate resilience planning and sustainable development practices
- Valid Oregon driver's license
