Responsibilities
- Manage Pension Operations: Oversee the daily administration of state pension accounts, ensuring accurate data entry, record maintenance, and timely processing of member inquiries.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure strict adherence to ERISA, CalPERS regulations, and state financial reporting standards to mitigate legal risk.
- Actuarial Analysis: Assist in the preparation of actuarial valuations and financial projections to assess the long-term health of the pension fund.
- Member Services: Serve as the primary point of contact for retirees and beneficiaries, resolving complex benefit questions with empathy and efficiency.
- Financial Auditing: Prepare detailed reports and documentation for internal and external audits, ensuring all financial transactions are transparent and verifiable.
- Policy Implementation: Interpret and implement new state legislation regarding retirement benefits, updating internal procedures accordingly.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Accounting, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in public sector finance, pension administration, or actuarial consulting.
- Licensure: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERPs) and advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and macros.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) rules and regulations.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
