Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health inspections of food establishments, schools, and multi-family housing units to ensure compliance with local and state health codes.
- Evaluate and report on environmental health hazards, including pest control, sanitation, and water safety.
- Issue permits, citations, and closure orders when necessary, ensuring all legal requirements are met.
- Provide education and guidance to business owners and the public regarding health safety practices and preventative measures.
- Investigate complaints related to public health nuisances and take appropriate remedial action.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate, up-to-date records in the departmental database.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Biology, or a related scientific field is required.
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Public Health Inspector in the State of California is highly preferred.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License and a clean driving record are mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local health regulations, including OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations.
- Physical ability to perform site visits, including climbing stairs and standing for extended periods.
