Responsibilities
- Process and adjudicate veterans' disability compensation claims with meticulous attention to detail
- Conduct comprehensive interviews to gather and verify service-related medical evidence
- Interpret and apply complex federal laws including 38 U.S.C. and relevant VA regulations
- Develop clear decision rationale documentation for contested claims appeals
- Collaborate with medical professionals and legal teams to build complete case files
- Provide veterans with personalized benefits counseling and program guidance
- Utilize Veterans Benefits Management System (VBMS) for claims processing
- Participate in continuous training on evolving VA policies and procedures
Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship required
- Minimum of one year specialized experience at GS-9 level or equivalent
- Expert knowledge of veterans' benefits programs and 38 U.S.C. statutes
- Ability to analyze complex medical and service records to establish service connections
- Superior written and verbal communication skills for veteran interactions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and claims processing systems
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Experience working with diverse veteran populations and trauma-informed approaches
