The City of El Paso is looking for a professional City Clerk to serve as the chief administrative officer for the City Council. Responsibilities
- Records Administration: Manage the complete lifecycle of official documents, including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and meeting minutes, ensuring strict compliance with retention schedules.
- Public Information Officer: Serve as the primary point of contact for the Texas Public Information Act; process and fulfill public records requests with accuracy and timeliness.
- Meeting Coordination: Prepare and distribute agendas, packets, and supporting materials for City Council and Board meetings; draft and certify accurate minutes.
- Staff Leadership: Supervise and mentor a diverse team of clerical staff, providing training on software systems and service standards to ensure operational excellence.
- Election Support: Assist in the administration of municipal elections, including voter registration drives and coordination of polling locations.
- Policy Implementation: Interpret and apply city policies and state laws to ensure fair and equitable administrative practices across all departments.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Management, or Paralegal Studies is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in municipal government or corporate administration, including supervisory experience.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with Document Management Systems (DMS) or Records Management software.
- Legal Knowledge: Working knowledge of the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Public Information Act, and Robert’s Rules of Order is highly desirable.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft formal correspondence and reports.
- Integrity: Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
