Join Boston's dynamic municipal team as City Clerk and become the guardian of the city's democratic processes and historical records. This pivotal role requires exceptional organizational leadership to oversee elections, public records management, and legislative documentation while serving as a trusted resource for residents, officials, and community partners. You'll implement digital transformation initiatives for record-keeping systems and ensure compliance with state election laws and municipal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Administer municipal elections, voter registration, and ballot processes with strict adherence to Massachusetts election law
- Manage and preserve official city records, ordinances, and archival documents with secure digital and physical systems
- Oversee city council meeting documentation, including minute preparation and legislative tracking
- Serve as custodian of public records and respond to information requests under public records law
- Lead initiatives to modernize record-keeping systems and improve public access to municipal information
- Coordinate with state election officials and legal counsel on compliance matters
- Manage departmental budget, staff supervision, and intergovernmental communications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 5 years experience in municipal government, records management, or electoral administration
- Expert knowledge of Massachusetts election law and public records regulations
- Advanced proficiency in document management systems (e.g., Laserfiche, OnBase)
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders
- Professional certification in Records Management (CRM) or Municipal Clerk (CMC) desirable
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with diverse audiences
- Experience implementing digital transformation in government operations
