Responsibilities
- Receive and direct incoming telephone calls and visitors to appropriate court departments and judges.
- Prepare, file, index, and maintain accurate records of legal documents, case files, and court proceedings.
- Assist the public with case lookups, document requests, and procedural inquiries with patience and professionalism.
- Operate court management software and database systems to update case status and generate necessary reports.
- Process payments for fines, fees, and court costs while issuing accurate receipts.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the clerk's office and public waiting areas.
- Collaborate with court staff to ensure smooth daily operations and courtroom readiness.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; additional clerical or legal training is a plus.
- Previous experience in an administrative, legal, or customer service environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is essential for data management.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in data entry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse members of the public.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive legal information.
- Must be able to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
