Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive emergency preparedness strategies for natural disasters and public health emergencies
- Coordinate with federal agencies (FEMA, DHS), state partners, and local organizations during crisis response
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses for New Orleans' unique geographical challenges
- Train and certify emergency response personnel in incident command systems (ICS)
- Manage public communication during emergencies via social media, press releases, and alert systems
- Oversee disaster recovery operations and resource allocation post-crisis
- Prepare grant applications and ensure compliance with federal emergency management regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 3 years experience in emergency response coordination or disaster management
- FEMA Professional Development Series (PDS) certification required
- Incident Command System (ICS) 300/400 certification
- Proven ability to work under extreme pressure with minimal supervision
- Strong knowledge of Louisiana emergency statutes and NIMS protocols
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Valid Louisiana driver's license and ability to work irregular hours during emergencies
