Responsibilities
- Member Inquiries: Serve as the primary liaison for CalPERS members and employers, answering complex questions regarding pension eligibility, service credits, and benefit calculations.
- Application Processing: Accurately review, validate, and process new pension applications and routine correspondence to ensure timely disbursement of benefits.
- Data Integrity: Maintain and update member records in state systems, ensuring all data is precise, secure, and compliant with federal and state regulations.
- Retirement Counseling Support: Assist members in understanding their pension options and provide referrals to financial planning resources as needed.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with the team to identify workflow bottlenecks and propose solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, administrative support, or financial data processing is highly preferred.
- Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to learn complex state software systems quickly.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial terminology into plain language.
- Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to data entry and file management is essential.
